January trial scheduled for Hastings man charged with sex crime against minor

A Hastings man accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old is scheduled for trial in January.

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - A Hastings man accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old is scheduled for trial in January.

George Janssen, 22, is charged with first-degree sexual assault of a child, third-degree sexual assault of a child, intentional child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Details of the crime are sealed, but charging documents indicate that Janssen is accused of sexually assaulting the 14-year-old in February 2022.

Janssen pleaded not guilty to the charges Wednesday and a judge set trial for Jan. 8, 2024 in Adams County District Court. He is free on $15,000 cash bond.

The max penalty for a conviction on first degree sexual assault of a child is 50 years in prison.
