AURORA, Neb. -- A new mural has been unveiled in a central Nebraska town.

The Hamilton Community Foundation held a ceremony on Tuesday to dedicate the mural you see behind me to the community of Aurora. The mural was done by twin sisters, Brianna and Bristol Lewis.

“We're pretty much best friends. We try to do a lot of things together. I like to say I was born with my best friend,” Brianna Lewis said.

The sister duo from Kansas City has a strong connection to Nebraska. Their mom grew up in Albion and their parents met during college at UNL. The Hamilton Community Foundation picked them out of 12 different proposals.

Executive Director Tamara Morris said their design spoke to the foundation board.

“The design was vibrant. So, I would say the first thing is, it that it was beautiful and it captured so many elements of Aurora and Hamilton county,” said Morris.

The 18-foot high by 60-foot wide mural is painted on a building own by Hamilton Telecommunications. It features the courthouse, the Hamilton County Fair, the Edgerton Explorit Center and more.

Morris hopes the mural becomes a point of pride for the community.

“This mural is the elevator speech for our community, and so, literally, you can take your time to look at it and it will give a really great picture of the quality of life here, the amenities that we have and really just what a tight knit community it is,” said Morris.

For the Lewis sisters, they hope the mural has a long-lasting impression.

“Beyond if they are from here, they see themselves. They see something they are familiar with, they see home. They see a very lively, bright, fun picture of home, a very optimistic one,“ Bristol Lewis said.

“Beauty really creates or can help create a better environment for you mentally,” Brianna Lewis said.

The mural project cost $43,000 and the funds were part from donors and the Hamilton Community Foundation.
