UNK faculty and staff give input on search for next NU President
The search to find the next University of Nebraska president is progressing through its process.
KEARNEY, Neb. — The search to find the next University of Nebraska president is progressing through its process.
Search firm Academic Search is hosting listening sessions at each of the university’s four campuses. Representatives were at UNK on Wednesday. About 30 people, primarily UNK and Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture faculty and staff, were attended.
The input given included recommending a president who is loyal and humble, who can sell the university to the state and who values the importance and difference of the UNK campus.
Board of Regents Chairman Tim Clare attended. The board has created nine leadership pillars for the job, but Clare hopes the listening sessions supplements the existing guidance.
“From the priority of the campus, they’re able to identify what’s unique and special about this position and what we should be looking for,” Clare said.
The search firm’s role is to identify possible candidates, to research candidates presented by the Board of Regents search committee and to make the first contact with those candidates.
There are two listening sessions in Lincoln on Thursday followed by the committee’s first meeting. Eventually, a priority candidate will be identified and announced publicly. That candidate will then tour the state during a 30-day vetting period. Clare believes a new president will be in place before the end of the first quarter.
