Firefighters extinguish house fire in Hastings, residents forced to relocate

A two-alarm fire in Hastings has left three people and a dog without a livable home.

HASTINGS, Neb. — A two-alarm fire in Hastings has left three people and a dog without a livable home.

On Sunday afternoon around 1:30, Hastings Fire and Rescue was dispatched to a residence near Baltimore Ave. and W. 9th St. on reports of a house fire. 

First responders observed flames coming from the home and smoke from the roof, but were able to extinguish the fire quickly. 

According to assistant fire chief Troy Vorderstrasse, the fire started in the rear of the house towards the backyard and chimney area. 

Three people and a dog were able to self-evacuate and no one was injured.

The cause of the fire is unknown right now, but has been deemed accidental.
