Authorities identify victim of fatal fire near Amherst

Authorities are releasing more information about a fatal fire in Central Nebraska.

AMHERST, Neb. — Authorities are releasing more information about a fatal fire in Central Nebraska.

The Buffalo County Sheriff's Office says 68-year-old Raymond Juhl of Amherst died in the blaze on October 5. A news release says a trailer home was fully engulfed when crews arrived and is a total loss. While on scene south of Amherst, first responders found Juhl’s body inside the trailer but weren’t able to identify that it was him. Foul play is not suspected, but the investigation remains ongoing.

The Amherst Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department and deputies were assisted by members of the Kearney Police Department, Nebraska State Fire Marshal’s Office, and Buffalo County Attorney’s Office.
