KEARNEY, Neb. -- Officials are now investigating the cause of a fire at a home in Riverdale. 

According to the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department, they were dispatched on Tuesday at around noon to a home in Riverdale.

When crews arrived they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the north end of the structure. 

Firefighters say that the home sustained extensive damage and structural collapse in the north end of the home. Reports say the fire was contained at 4:36 p.m.

No one was home when the fire began. 

KVFD was assisted by BCSO, Dawson Public Power, Black Hills Energy, Pleasanton Volunteer Fire Department, Amherst Volunteer Fire Department and the Red Cross. 

The fire is being investigated but it is believed to have started in the basement.
