CENTRAL CITY, Neb. — A family is grieving after a Nebraska man died in a car accident on Tuesday.
The Merrick County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened at the intersection of Highway 14 and Q Road, which is about three miles north of Central City. A news release says a northbound tractor crossed into the opposite lane and hit a northbound SUV driven by 28-year-old Zachary Lepant of Grand Island. Lepant died at the scene. The tractor driver, a 22-year-old man from Fullerton, was transported to a hospital and released.
“Anytime there is the tragic loss of life we are reminded just how fragile life can be,” Capt. Jake Bauer said in a news release. “We are keeping Mr. Lepant’s wife, family, and friends as well as the (tractor driver’s) family in our constant thoughts and prayers.”
The Sheriff’s Office says authorities are still investigating the accident. Seatbelts were in use and investigators don’t think alcohol or drugs were involved.
