Fleck denies recent allegations of toxic culture in the Minnesota program
Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck adamantly denied recent allegations against him and the Golden Gophers program during a Thursday morning interview with News Channel Nebraska.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Minnesota Golden Gophers are speaking at Big Ten Media Days one day after allegations were published in a Front Office Sports article saying coach PJ Fleck created a toxic culture in his program. He spoke to News Channel Nebraska about the accusations.
"Baseless allegations," Fleck said. "We have full support from our athletic director Mark Coyle and the university leadership. These claims have been looked at multiple times since 2017. We have around half a dozen anonymous avenues for our players while they're there to reach out to...and our athletic director Mark Coyle gives his cell number to every single person on the team. And up to this date, there have been zero claims with this issue."
The report included allegations from previous members of the program. Fleck adamantly denies those allegations.
"A former university staff member clearly has a personal vendetta against myself and our football program," Fleck said. "Each year, he peddles out this similar story to numerous media outlets to see if somebody will take it."
Minnesota finished the season 9-4 last year. The Golden Gophers beat Nebraska 20-13 in Lincoln and have topped the Big Red four straight times.
The Huskers open their season at Minnesota on Thursday, August 31st.
