HASTINGS, Neb. -- The Adams County Fairfest is under way and so are 4-H youth related activities.

Each year the barns at the Adams County Fairgrounds are filled up with cows, sheep, and pigs. Meanwhile, the activities building is filled with other exhibitions like drawings, photography, pottery, food, horticulture and more.

Ron Seymour, extension educator, said the county fair is the place where youth come and show what they’ve been working on throughout the year.

“It is an opportunity for those youth to be able to have a project and say 'here’s what I did' and then have somebody who’s knowledgeable about that area to evaluate it and then tell that youth how to do it better," Seymour said.

This year among the events at the fair is a goat show, horse show, beef show, cat and small animal show and more. Seymour said the 4-H program is more than a program.

“The 4-H program is for those youth, for them to learn things about themselves, learn life skills, learn leadership skills, and kind of learn how to do things,” Seymour said.

Seymour said that the events bring people together.

“That’s what makes it such a good community event because everybody can become involved,” Seymour said. "You come and have fun, you come and learn what other people are doing and you congratulate each other on how well you’ve done."

Throughout the day there are different types of shows going on. For a complete list of events visit adamscountyfairgrounds.com
