Chautauqua to take place at the Stuhr Museum in Grand Island.
GRAND ISLAND, Neb.- Chautauqua to take place at the Stuhr Museum in Grand Island.
The popular festival comes back to the city of Grand Island with the theme “What Connect Us,” with entertainment and presentations from four scholars with historic portrayals.
Kristi Hayek Carley, program manager at Humanities Nebraska, said it will be a great event.
“These historical figures have really interesting stories and elements to their lives that connect to some of the things that we are struggling with as a society today," Carley said. "I think that Chautauqua is one of those programs that we do at Humanities Nebraska where, yes, we’re interacting with history but you’re also able to start thinking about ‘oh wait, that sounds familiar.'“
The four scholars will be portraying Mark Twain, Edith Wharton, Rosa Parks, and Chief Standing Bear.
The main event will take place July 21 and July 22 at the Stuhr Museum’s Railroad Town in the evening. The Grand Island Public Library will have workshops Saturday morning.
All events are free to the public.
