New interim senior vice chancellor named at UNK

A new interim senior vice chancellor for academic affairs has been announced at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

KEARNEY, Neb. -- A new interim senior vice chancellor for academic affairs has been announced at the University of Nebraska - Kearney. 

According to a news release, Chancellor Doug Kristensen announced the appointment of Julie Shaffer on Tuesday, pending approval by the NU president and the Board of Regents. 

Shaffer will serve as interim for a minimum of one year while UNK searches to fill the position permanently.

Shaffer has been at UNK since 1999 with the Department of Biology, where she has taught online and in person, served as graduate program chair, department chair and created research projects that have received more than $6 million in grant funding.

She has also served on campus committees and academic program review teams. 

Shaffer replaces Kristen Majocha, who was in the position for just one year. Majocha will now be in a faculty role in the UNK Department of Communication.
