MINDEN, Neb. -- A museum and tourist attraction in Minden is celebrating its 70th anniversary this weekend.

Harold Warp's Pioneer Village complex has 28 buildings on 20 acres, housing over 50,000 items of historical value.

Foundation board member Sally Jurgensmier said it deserves a celebration.

“To have anything going for 70 years is quite a mark on the calendar so we figure, just like anything else, it needs to be celebrated,“ Jurgensmier said.

Jurgensmier said the event’s purpose is to bring the community together.

“So, we’re celebrating this weekend and kind of trying to bring together the community and anyone else who is interested in the Pioneer village to see how we have started a rejuvenation program, to bring it back to life,“ Jurgensmier said. "You know it kind of went through some 'war years' you might say and became a little neglected and dilapidated but it’s such a treasure.”

The village has been through some rejuvenations like improvements to the carousel, a repainted locomotive, a total renovation of the diner and more.

Throughout the weekend, people will be able to enjoy museum tours, old-fashioned games, a children's scavenger hunt, a church service and a pancake breakfast on Sunday, food trucks, live demonstrations of broom making, weaving and blacksmithing, and live music.

Jurgensmier said people should expect a “party atmosphere.”

“We want everyone to just come and enjoy the fruits of the labors that have been put together the last two years, whether volunteer or hired efforts,“ Jurgensmier said.

Kearney County residents get in for free. Admission is $15 for other guests. The anniversary event lasts from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
