GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - At the request of the Hall County Attorney, charges against a Grand Island woman accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars have been dismissed.

Constance Reimers, 66, had been connected to an FBI investigation in California in which elderly men were targeted as part of a larger network of scammers with ties to the African nation of Ghana.

She had been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit theft by deception more than $5,000 and one count of theft by deception more than $5,000.

Court records show the charges were dismissed without prejudice, a legal term which means charges could be filed again at a later date.

Hall County Attorney Marty Klein said the charges were dropped because a more in-depth review of the case was necessary. He said the case would likely be refiled, but that his office needed to take another look at the evidence before moving forward.
