Grand Island Police accuse woman of stabbing husband, breaking daughter’s nose

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — A Grand Island woman is behind bars on charges that she stabbed her husband and injured one of her daughters.
Grand Island Police say officers were called to an emergency room just after midnight Tuesday morning in reference to a possible domestic assault. A news release says a man told officers he was stabbed near his home at Cherry Park Apartments. Medical officials told officers the stab wound was on his collar bone and punctured his lung. He also suffered a laceration on his knee.
Officers say they talked to two girls who were present during the incident. The girls said their mother, Isabel Sanchez-Vega, stabbed her husband with a knife. One of the girls also suffered a broken nose after she said Sanchez-Vega hit her with a cell phone.
Police arrested Sanchez-Vega for first-degree domestic assault, intentional child abuse with serious injury, three counts of child abuse with no injury, obstruction and a weapons charge.
