Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney football team will conclude workouts this week with an annual spring game on Saturday, April 22.

The game begins at 1 p.m. from Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field and will pit the offense (blue/gold uniform combination) against the defense (blue/white combo). Additionally, specialists will wear blue/gold with the Lopers four quarterbacks in black jerseys.

QB’s will not be hit during the game and if a turnover happens, the whistle will blow and action stopped at that point. The game clock will run normally in the first half and, after a 10-minute half time, there will be a running clock in the second half.

The offense can score points by reaching the end zone (six) and by converting a PAT (one or two) or field goal (three). The defense will pick up points with a turnover (four), a three-and-out (three), a stop/no points for the offense (two) or sack (one).

If the Loper offense punts during the game, the specialists will go out, punt the ball and the returner will catch it but not return it. A punt touchback will move the ball to the 20-yard line and after a score, the ball will be placed on the 30-yard line. Finally, there will be no rushing on PAT/field goal tries and the UNK offense gets one chance to put the ball on the plus 20-yard line.

Eighty-four players (40 offense, 38 defense and six specialists) are currently going through workouts with UNK being relatively healthy at this point of the season.

Finally, the 13th annual Lopers Backers Banquet is set for Thursday; Loper fans can register their phone to begin the bidding process. A crowd of over 700 is expected.
