GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- Superpowers and heroes are all coming out of the comic book pages at next weekend’s Grand Comic Fest.

The Fifth Annual Grand Comic Fest sponsored by the Grand Theater will be held Apr. 22 and 23 at the Pinnacle Bank Expo Center.

Director Doug Holmes said the event gets bigger with every year.

“We’ve started out, really, a small event and is really grown to where, now that we’re out at the Pinnacle Bank Expo Center at Fonner Park," Holmes said. "So, we have a much larger venue and so we can house more vendors and artist and other people."

The family event will kick off with a free showing of the movie “Spaceballs” at the Grand Theater on Friday, Apr. 21.

The event celebrates all things geek and will feature comic books, pop culture, a light saver academy, podcasts and more.

Holmes said he hopes people have fun.

“Just coming in with an open mind, you know; they may find the toy that they had as a kid; or they might find an artist that they like their particular style; or just enjoying time with their families,” he said.

Admission for the comic fest is $10 per day or $15 for the weekend.
