FAIRFIELD, Neb. — One person is in custody after authorities say the person threatened a student at Sandy Creek Public Schools.
In a joint statement, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Clay County Emergency Management and South Central Unified School District #5 said the school facility went into immediate lockdown after hearing about the threat Tuesday morning. Local law enforcement activated their Active Threat Response Plan and responded to the school with the Nebraska State Patrol and off-duty law enforcement.
The statement says the person who made the threat was arrested in Hastings.
Due to high emotions, Sandy Creek postponed the track and golf events they were hosting on Tuesday. Other schools were already on site for the track meet but left after the lockdown was lifted.
Some parents were at the school picking up students and some students were leaving school on their own around 10:00 a.m.
Sandy Creek Public Schools is in a K-12 facility about 25 miles southeast of Hastings near Fairfield.
