HASTINGS, Neb. - The city of Hastings is touting its financial situation after reviewing its annual audit.

Grand Island accounting firm AMGL looked at the fiscal year ending on September 30, 2022 in the audit. According to a news release, the city had $19,124,799 in general fund cash as of that date. The balance is far above the target amount of $9.67 million but less than the $21,281,796 reported in the 2021 audit. City officials say the drop is the result of highway repairs and increased public safety costs.

Multiple large expenses could be coming for the city. They include the renovation or relocation of city hall and work on U.S. Highway 6 on the east side of town.

The city council discussed the audit at a work session on Monday.
