HASTINGS, Neb. - Hastings city officials are reminding local restaurants to check their fire extinguishers, extinguishing systems and perform regular hood inspections.

The reminder comes after Hastings Fire and Rescue responded to its second commercial kitchen fire in the last few weeks. It happened at Sonic on South Burlington Avenue on Sunday morning. A news release says the restaurant manager used a fire extinguisher to put the fire out.

Hastings Fire and Rescue personnel are assisting in guiding the restaurant through the necessary inspections and processes to reopen following the fire.

The fire was related to the fryer, similar to a recent incident at Wal-Mart.
