Tri-City Street Rods celebrates 50th anniversary by giving
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- The biggest car show event of the year will be donating all proceeds to a local non-profit organization.
The Tri-City Street Rods are commemorating their 50th annual auto exhibition by donating the proceeds of the event to Crossroads Mission Avenue.
Tri-City Street Rods Director Danny Oberg said that giving is in their DNA.
“I think all of the people that own these types of cars, and the nucleus of our club itself, knows that we’ve been blessed and when you’re blessed, you should pass the best blessing along, you know, you should just pass it along, and that’s part of who we are as a group,” Oberg said.
For Oberg, selecting Crossroads Mission Avenue was an easy choice.
“That’s one thing that just fell in our lap," Oberg said. "We were hunting for a local mission with presence in Hastings and a presence in Grand Island because the majority of our members are from Hastings, Nebraska; but the presence of the car show is in Grand Island, Nebraska. It was reviewed what they had on their web page, their Director Daniel had really high recommendations, so it was just kind of a really easy choice."
Crossroad Mission Avenue Executive Director Daniel Buller said he's more than happy about the donation because it will benefit the homeless shelter and its outreach.
“For Tri-City Street Rods to come in and help Crossroads means a lot because it’s going to help with our sustainability," Buller said. "That means that through the year of 2023, we’ll be able to offer the assistance that we can give to people. We see that the need is greater than last year."
This year, the event will have 134 cars, 13 motorcycles, go karts, some pedal cars, classic Schwinn bicycles and more.
The event will be held at the Fonner Park Pinnacle Bank Expo building on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tickets are sold at the door for $10.
