'It might change their lives': Aurora bookstore donates thousands of books
AURORA, Neb. - Around 1,500 books are given away each month thanks to a central Nebraska woman who thinks that a book could change the course of your life.
Susan Williams is the proud owner of Susan’s Books and Gifts store in downtown Aurora. When her parents died, they left her the store.
“My parents died 21 years ago and they loved books. They put books along the interstate in all the gas stations as they farmed. They just told us kids if someone gets a book, they might open it at midnight and it might change their lives," she said.
Everyday people who know about the store and its impact bring Williams books for her to donate and sell. On Thursday, she received 50 boxes of books.
Because of people bringing her books, she has been able to donate around 1,500 books each month to organizations, churches and pretty much anyone who comes in and asks.
“A district came and put them in all their free lunches this summer," Williams said. "We don’t care at all, if you need books to put in your little free library you can get them free here. If you just want to give them to a whole bunch of children that you know you can come get them free, just tell that you’re giving books away, and we’ll give them to you free.”
She wants the store to be the place where you can enter a world and feel loved, where people only talk about books. Every book is $2.00 and if you come from out of town, they take .10 cents off per mile. Plus, the bookstore includes a free book.
The book that might change your life, Williams said.
“We can honestly completely change the way that we look at life if we read other people’s stories and have them encourage us. We just have to take the time to pick up the book,” Williams said.
