Grand Island man pleads no contest to motor vehicle homicide
A man is pleading no contest to motor vehicle homicide after a crash killed his wife.

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- A man is pleading no contest to motor vehicle homicide after a crash killed his wife.
According to court documents, on the morning of Mar. 12, a car driven by Juan Velasquez Montanez left the road and struck an object.
Police determined he was driving drunk. He was traveling with his wife who died at the scene.
The single-vehicle crash happened in Grand Island near the intersection of Cherry St. and Groff St.
Velasquez Montanez was charged with felony motor vehicle homicide and first offense DUI.
On Tuesday, the defendant changed his plea. Velasquez Montanez pleaded no contest to motor vehicle homicide and the court dismissed the DUI offense.
The defendant is out on bond and his sentencing is schedule for Feb. 21.
