LEXINGTON, NE — A Minnesota man is charged with several offenses after police say he assaulted the mother of his child and possibly burned her immigration paperwork.
According to court documents, the events occurred on the morning of November 23rd when authorities were dispatched to a woman’s home just east of Lexington.
The victim told police she left Minnesota with her young daughter due to problems with 30-year-old Jorge Martinez-Medrano. She says he followed her to Nebraska and angrily insisted she return with him and their daughter. She said he became violent after she refused, hitting her in the ribs and face and dragging her by the hair. The woman says she was able to escape by car despite Martinez-Medrano using a machete to stab at her tires.
Police say they noticed smoke at the house when they arrived. It took several attempts, but officers were able to arrest Martinez-Medrano.
Police say that a burn area was located in the property. Among the burned items were the victim’s phone, clothing and possible immigration paperwork.
Jorge Martinez-Medrano was charged with attempted kidnapping, terroristic threats, use of a weapon to commit a felony, third degree domestic assault, obstructing a peace officer, criminal mischief, and child abuse. He is being held on $500,000 bond and is scheduled for his first court hearing on December 8.
