GRAND ISLAND, Neb.-- Tuesday’s election decides many important elected positions.

The Grand Island YWCA knows how vital elections are, that’s why they are offering rides to the polls for anyone who needs them.

YWCA community organizer Joseline Reyna says the organization understands the importance of every election.

“A lot of people always focus on presidential elections but we don’t really know how important it is our local elections, this year tomorrow will be voting on the governor, on the mayor local elections people that will represent on the school board so that really import and that will have an impact on you and your family,” Reyna said.

Reyna knows that a lot of people lack transportation, that Grand Island doesn’t have much public transportation and that many elderly people don’t have a way to get to their polling place. For her, it’s also about making an impact.

“Because I’m not a US citizen I’m not able to vote, so this is my way to contributing to democracy and letting people know that by voting they’re making their voice heard and they’re also making decisions about things that again will impact them and their families,” Reyna said.

Rides will be available Tuesday from 8am to 7pm. To request a ride, call the YWCA or call or text Joseline at 402-327-1478 . A volunteer will pick you up, bring you to the poll, and take you back home.
