Annual Fireman's Banquet, service hours celebrated

Local Firemen were recognized for their achievements at the annual Fireman's Banquet.

SIDNEY, Neb. -- Local firemen were recognized for their achievements at the Annual Fireman's Banquet.

On Saturday, Sept. 7 the Cheyenne County Volunteer Fire Department celebrated their hard work at Dude's Steakhouse.

Fireman Nick Sutton was awarded firefighter of the year. John Wolever was runner up for firefighter of the year.

Laverne Bown also received his 30 years in service award and DJ Sparks was recognized for five years of service.

The top 10 responders for 2021 to 2022 were Wayne Sparks, LaVerene Bown, Ron Leal, Dana Reece, John Wolever, James Harmon, Charley Roderick, Mathew Butts, Nick Sutton and Rob Roderick.

During 2021 to 2022 the SVFD responded to 149 emergent events totaling 1,831 hours and 17 minutes and 34 non-emergent events totaling 2,813 hours and 6 minutes. Training hours totaled to 1,278 hours and 30 minutes.

The grand total of service hours for the year came out to be 4,091 hours and 38 minutes of volunteer time.
