KEARNEY, NE — Law enforcement in Central Nebraska are warning people that a jury duty scam is circulating in the area.

The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office says a person is calling people claiming to be a deputy and telling them there is a warrant for their arrest for failing to appear for jury duty. The scammer then informs the victim they can avoid arrest by paying a fine via gift or green dot cards.

The Sheriff’s Office says it will never request fine payment with gift cards. If people are curious if they missed jury duty, they can call the county or district court offices.
