Day of Caring for Those Who Care offers special day for Hastings caregivers
Sometimes life can feel overwhelming and lonely if you’re a family caregiver.

HASTINGS, NE — Sometimes life can feel overwhelming and lonely if you’re a family caregiver.
But those weren’t the emotions felt on Thursday at Chautauqua Pavilion in Hastings. For 17 years the Day of Caring for Those Who Care has created something special for caregivers.
“Thank them for doing what they do for their loved ones with special needs, but to (also) let them know that their whole community - all of us - benefits from the things they’re doing for their loved ones,” Respite Coordinator at Hastings Respite Care Jinx Hackler said.
Hackler, the event organizer, says family caregivers can be any age and care for the young, elderly or disabled. The event offers information booths from local agencies, multiple expert presenters, and entertainment.
Hackler hopes caregivers leave knowing two things. First, they’re not alone.
“There are many other agencies and organizations here in town that want to be of help," Hackler said. "We’re hoping to raise awareness to that fact.”
Second, it’s important to remember to care for yourself.
“If you’re not healthy, then you can’t be of a benefit to them either," Hackler said. "It’s very important that you continue to do the things that you need to do for yourself.”
The event is supported by the Sunnyside Foundation, Hastings Community Foundation and local businesses.
