Hastings is set to host the state’s best high school rodeo athletes this weekend for the state finals.
HASTINGS, NE — Hastings is set to host the state’s best high school rodeo athletes this weekend for the state finals.
It features the top 30 contestants in each of 13 events. The high schoolers have accumulated points throughout the fall and spring seasons to qualify. Events start on Friday morning and culminate with the final rodeo short go and awards ceremony on Sunday afternoon.
A few of the headliners include reigning steer wrestling champion Dane Pokorny of Stapleton, 15-year-old Reagan McIntyre of Grand Island who leads standings in breakaway roping and goat tying, and Tate Miller of Springview who excels at bareback riding.
Miss Nebraska High School Rodeo Queen will be crowned prior to the final performance on Sunday.
