GRAND ISLAND, NE — A prominent Grand Island city employee is set to retire.

Public Works Director/City Engineer John Collins gave the city his notice of retirement effective May 31.

“I’ve enjoyed my time living in Grand Island and working with the city has been a real pleasure,” Collins said in a news release. “However, it is time for me to retire.”

Mayor Roger Steele will recommend to the city council on Tuesday that Keith Kurz be appointed Collins’ position in an interim capacity. Kurz is the Assistant Public Works Director.

“I anticipate a seamless transition in leadership will occur with Keith Kurz appointment and the council’s approval,” Steele said. “Keith will move forward with a team of dedicated individuals and believe the department’s continued success will not be deterred.”
