HASTINGS, Neb. -- Firefighters in central Nebraska said a good samaritan saved the life of a dog during a house fire.

Hastings Fire and Rescue said it happened Monday afternoon on North Baltimore Avenue.

They said crews arrived and found smoke coming from the home and a good samaritan outside who had already rescued a dog from the house.

The residents were not inside at the time of the fire, and no other injuries were reported.

The dog was treated at a local vet for smoke inhalation.

Fire officials said the fire was under control within 20 minutes.

An investigation found that the fire was accidental in nature.
