KEARNEY, NE — There are smiles around Buffalo County law enforcement facilities today.

The Buffalo County Commissioners proclaimed next week as National Corrections Officers and Employees Week in a ceremony Tuesday morning. The proclamation said the commissioners have “the utmost respect” for corrections officers and their completion of duties that have become “increasingly complex and demanding.”

Sheriff Neil Miller also swore in new Deputy Sheriff Christopher Jarmin on Tuesday morning. Jarmin graduated from the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center earlier this month. He has worked for the county since 2007 in law enforcement communications and corrections. Retired deputy Jim Downing, who previously wore Jarmin’s badge number 90935, pinned the badge on him.
