GRAND ISLAND, Neb -- All residents escaped safely before a fire destroyed a home in central Nebraska.

Grand Island Fire and Rescue were called out to a structure fire Thursday afternoon before 4:00 in the 1200 block of W. Koenig.

Fire officials say the fire was caused by improperly discarded smoking materials, stoked by the winds.

No one was injured.

The fire was one of two caused by cigarette butts that Grand Island Fire and Rescue responded to on Thursday.
