Blustery, potentially dangerous conditions over the next two days in Nebraska
Virtually all of Nebraska is waking up to gusty conditions Wednesday morning.
HASTINGS, Neb. -- Virtually all of Nebraska is waking up to gusty conditions Wednesday morning.
Every county in the state is either in a high wind warning or a wind advisory until at least 8:00 p.m. Thursday.
The winds are at their most troublesome in the western half of the state. Sidney had winds exceeding 60 mph on Tuesday. Gusts up to 66 mph could continue in western and central Nebraska.
That doesn't mean the eastern third of the state isn't seeing its fair share of blustery weather, with gusts expected to reach up to 50 mph in some areas.
The National Weather Service says that damaging winds will blow down trees and possibly power lines. Power outages are possible, according to NWS. Travel will be
difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
At least patchy blowing dust and minor visibility restrictions will be possible during the high winds, NWS officials said, while also noting that people should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. The National Weather Service advises people to remain in the lower levels homes if possible.
The National Weather Service also advises staying away from windows and using caution if you need to drive anywhere.
