NEBRASKA CITY - The Nebraska City girls basketball team held on to defeat Plattsmouth Tuesday on senior night.

Seniors Kendyl Schmitz and Katie Schreiter were honored in front of a packed gym at Nebraska City High School prior to the game. The Pioneers (3-15) gave up an 11-point lead in the fourth quarter, but hit free throws down the stretch to seal the 39-32 victory.

The Lady Devils (2-14) battled back in the second half after trailing by 13 at the break, but foul trouble and the inability to hit free throws in the closing moments allowed the Pioneers to escape.

Plattsmouth head coach Rick Titus was forced to play younger players in critical situations after seniors Corrine Frodermann and Krista Hardy fouled out.

At one point in the fourth quarter Nebraska City had three juniors and two seniors on the court while Plattsmouth had three freshman, one sophomore and a lone senior.

Junior Halle Thompson scored a game-high 14 points, many of which came from the free throw line. Schmitz and Schreiter combined for 15 points with Schreiter connecting on three 3-pointers.

With the defeat, Plattsmouth has lost its last 12 games. Nebraska City won consecutive games for the first time this season with both wins coming against Plattsmouth.

Box Score:

Plattsmouth: 3, 10, 9, 10 - 32

Nebraska City: 11, 15, 7, 6 - 39

Senior Chase Brown displayed a dominant and efficient scoring night for the Pioneer boys in their 46-19 victory over the Blue Devils.

Brown scored 20 points on the night, showing off an array of moves in the lane while also stepping out to hit multiple 3-pointers. It became clear early Brown had the hot hand and Plattsmouth had no answer.

The Blue Devils (6-10) were outscored by Brown alone in the loss and were unable to get leading scorer Kevin Winscot going. The 6-foot-4-inch Winscot spent most of his time out on the perimeter where he hit two 3-pointers in the first half.

But the Pioneers (7-10) played complimentary defense all around and made things tough on Winscot when he got inside the paint. Senior Nyuon Thuokok played terrific defense, constantly getting his hand in passing lanes and cutting off drivers before they could get to the basket.

Nebraska City held Plattsmouth to its lowest scoring total this season and has now won back-to-back games for the second time this year.

Box Score:

Plattsmouth: 4, 9, 5, 1 - 19

Nebraska City: 12, 13, 7, 14- 46
