RED CLOUD -- The Red Cloud Opera House Gallery, presented by the Willa Cather Center, is  hosting an exhibit on Native American pop art until December 14th, called 49 Minutes of Fame

According to their website:

The National Willa Cather Center acknowledges that we occupy the homelands of the Pâri (Pawnee), the Washtáge Monzhán (Kansa), and the Oceti Sakowin (Sioux) peoples, territory that was also utilized by the Oto-Missouria, Osage, and other indigenous peoples following the arrival of American and European settlers. We commit ourselves to honoring those peoples and the land we occupy by providing a space for cultural exchange and learning.

One of the featured artists is Sarah Lowe of Ponca, who said she's drawn to art as a way of expressing her impressions of life.

"I tend to get hit with ideas like lightening bolts," she said. "I like to build large scale projects. I've been working with sound and video more lately to build these worlds and make the art more immersive."

Lowe said art and exhibits have changed a lot through the pandemic, with less in-person events. "I feel like a space cadet, really," she said, having just healed from COVID-19 and trying to catch up on commissions. But, Lowe finds that art is also a good therapy to getting through it.

Soon, Lowe will be a resident artist at the Great Plains Museum, where visitors can come in and interact with her art. That will start by March of 2022.

You can find her on instagram, or email her.
