Nebraska City-The Nebraska City Pioneers baseball team was no match for Mother Nature as they had their two prior scheduled home openers cancelled last week due to rain and cold weather.  They were finally able to get on their home field on Tuesday as they took on the 5-3 Wahoo/Bishop Neuman/Lincoln Lutheran Warriors.  After getting down 6-0 after 2 innings, the Pioneers were able to rally for an 8-6 victory in front of the home fans at Clemmy Holmes Field at Steinhart Park.

Wahoo would jump out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning on RBI singles by Ryan Raabe and Mike Lynch and an RBI fielders choice by Micah Schleuter.  In the top of the 2nd, the Warriors would extend their lead to 6-0 on a squeeze play by Schleuter and a fielding error on the Pioneers.

Nebraska City starter Cael Kreifel would then settle down and hold the Warriors scoreless when the Pioneers would get the offense going in the 4th inning.  The Pioneers would get on the board in the bottom of the 4th after Hayden Coyle would score on a wild pitch and an RBI single by Clay Stovall that scored Miles Draus.  Kreifel would then help his own cause with a 2 RBI single to score Baylor Poston and Stovall to close the Warrior lead to 6-4.

In the bottom of the 5th, the Pioneer offense was able to come through with two outs as it was Stovall again, this time with a 2 RBI double that would score Draus and Poston to tie the game at 6-6.  Kreifel would then come to the plate and deliver a single to left field that scored Stovall and give the Pioneers their first lead of the game after trailing 6-0.  Sam Pelican would cap off the scoring with an infield single that would score courtesy runner Vance Weninger after an error on the same play to give the Pioneers the lead at 8-6 after 5 innings.

Hayden Coyle would then come in in relief and pitched 2 scoreless innings to earn the save.  Cael Kreifel got the win on the mound by going 5 innings and giving up 4 earned runs on 9 hits with 5 strikeouts.

The Pioneer hitters had 9 hits on the afternoon led by Clay Stovall who was 3 for 4 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.  Cael Kreifel was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI and Zach Tesarek was 2 for 4 at the plate.  Also adding hits for the Pioneers were Sloan Pelican and Miles Draus.  Draus and Poston each scored 2 runs apiece.

Sam Stuhr took the loss for the Warriors in relief.  He threw 2 1/3 innings in relief giving up 3 earned runs on 5 hits with 5 strikeouts.  Starter Brody Specht went 3 2/3 innings giving up 4 earned runs on 4 hits.

The Pioneers moved to 2-2 on the season and are on a 2 game win streak after defeating Platte Valley 6-4 on Saturday.  They opened the season with losses to Mt Michael Benedictine(3-1) and the Platteview Trojans(1-0).  They will next be in action on Monday, April 5th at Clemmy Holmes field against the Seward Bluejays followed by a home matchup with Skutt Catholic at home on Tuesday.
