New Beatrice BPW storage facility, paid for

BEATRICE – Beatrice officials have approved the final pay request of some $277,000 for a new storage facility just north of the Beatrice Board of Public Works Service Center.

The building will be used by city electric, water and street departments, and will result in an old Quonset building being torn down. It is located along North 2nd Street, not far from a city-owned road materials storage building.

Caspers Construction built the new storage facility, which has six large vehicle bays. The building was jointly funded by utility department budgets.

The city council also approved a $95,537 contract increase and final payment for this year’s mill-and-overlay street work. City Administrator Tobias Tempelmeyer says the additional cost came from two things.

"Bluff Street, down by the Scott Street ballfields was damaged as part of the flood...and will be paid back through FEMA...that got rolled into this contract. The second portion that led to the change order would be increased quantities with Fifth Street, being a wide street, we ended up using more tonnage (of asphalt) than what we initially anticipated, which led to the increase as well."

The final pay request to Pavers, Inc. totaled $456,513.

The city council also approved the $58,385 bid of Topkote Inc. for armor coat maintenance on various streets next year….and the $68,247 bid of Hall Brothers, Inc. for asphalt sealing on several streets, in 2021.
