HARTINGTON - A stifling defense that forced several early turnovers and crisp passing for timely buckets put the Norfolk Catholic girls in the win column for the first time this season, with a 42-34 victory over Hartington Cedar Catholic Monday night.

Mary Fennessy spearheaded the effort with 12 points, including the basket that iced it with just over a minute remaining. Allison Brungardt played stellar off the bench, chipping in 7 points and dynamite defense.

The Lady Knights opened up with a 5-0 lead and never trailed, leading by 9 at the break. Hartington Cedar Catholic turned up the defensive pressure in the 4th, cutting the lead to 5, led by Brynn Wortmann's game-high 14 points and Megan Heimes' dynamite D. But an alert homerun pass from Jozy Piper to a waiting Fennessy under the bucket put the game away in the final minutes.

Noroflk Catholic (1-3) is back home Thursday against Lutheran High Northeast, while Hartington Cedar Catholic (0-2) hits the road to Crofton tonight.
