Leyton off to best start in seven years

DALTON - The Leyton football team is unbeaten through three games for the first time since 2013.

Junior quarterback Scout Gamble threw for 192 yards and four touchdowns on 13-23 passing, and the Warriors defeated Bayard in their home opener Friday night in Dalton, 50-24. 

Gamble added 57 yards and a touchdown on seven carries. He also had an interception from his safety position on defense.

Leyton outscored Bayard, 44-6, in the second and fourth quarters to improve to 3-0. 

Senior Zack Henke had eight carries for 49 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught a touchdown pass and finished with 44 yards receiving. 

Sophomore Justin Ernest caught two passes for 33 yards and two touchdowns. 

Senior Dominick Russ and junior Mason Reimers each had a touchdown catch.

Junior Kole Bush led the team in rushing with 88 yards on 15 carries.

Bayard senior quarterback Jack Kildow finished with four total touchdowns, including three through the air. He was 12-33 passing for 134 yards.

Senior Christian Leonard rushed for 85 yards on 14 carries.

Sophomore Trenton Marquez, senior Tucker Batt and junior Kolton Kriha each caught touchdowns passes. 

The Warriors will be on the road next Friday at Hyannis. The Tigers (1-2) host Perkins County.
