Potter's end-of-summer festival is receiving funds to help them put on the event.

Cheyenne County Commissioners approved two applications from organizers of Potter Days, totaling $6,000 dollars at their meeting Monday.

Making a return at this year's Potter Days is off road racing. The race is called the PNCC Potter 120. The last time the race was held was in the 1970s.

Cheyenne County tourism director Kevin Howard says the addition of the event can attract riders and others from the front range in Colorado where many similar races have been canceled.

"Even though [the race] is just a one day event, it enhances Potter Days," Howard said. "Let's get them started."

Howard also said it is nice to have some events going on in the area from a tourism standpoint as many festivals or other summer occasions in the Panhandle have been canceled due to COVID-19.

Potter Days and the PNCC Potter 120 are scheduled for Labor Day weekend.

Potter held their annual Potter CarBowl in late June which the commissioners and Howard called a big success.
