Court documents reveal new information in Norfolk murder case

NORFOLK, NE — We’re learning more about the hours leading up to Friday’s fatal shooting in Norfolk.
Court documents say Hailey Christiansen visited the Norfolk Police station at 9:51 Thursday night, about nine hours before she was fatally shot outside her home on Blaine Street. Her ex-boyfriend, DeShawn Gleaton Jr., is charged with her murder.
Norfolk Police Chief Don Miller says Christiansen didn't say she was scared for her safety, rather that there were social media posts that made her feel uncomfortable. He says she wanted them documented in case the posts started getting worse. Christiansen said she thought the posts were coming from Gleaton. Investigators later determined the posts were from someone else.
Court documents also say a witness saw a man matching Gleaton’s description at the scene about 25 minutes before the shooting. A woman told police she saw a tall, black man climb over the privacy fence at Christiansen’s home. She said she saw the man go to the side door and talk with Christiansen. She says she lost sight of them and assumed they went inside.
Court documents say Christiansen’s parents told police that Gleaton had stolen her property after they broke up and that he had been physically abusive to her in the past.
Norfolk Police responded to a call of a shooting on Blaine Street around 6:45 Friday morning. Christiansen was transported to a hospital in critical condition and died around 11:30 a.m. Police identified Gleaton as a suspect and arrested him in Sioux City early Saturday morning.
Gleaton’s arraignment is set for 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in Madison County Court. He faces first-degree murder, first-degree assault and two weapons charges.
A memorial fund for Christiansen’s family is set up at Midwest Bank.
