Pretrial hearing scheduled for former Gering teacher accused of inappropriate contact with student

GERING, NE - A former Gering Public Schools teacher charged with multiple felonies will have his pretrial hearing in early September. 

31-year-old Zachary Boness's pretrail is scheduled for September 8, in Scotts Bluff County.

According to court documents, he is charged with the felonies of intentionally or knowingly committing child abuse with no injury and attempt to commit a class 2A felony. He is also charged with debauching a minor, a misdemeanor. Boness has pleaded not guilty to all charges. 

The Nebraska State Patrol began an investigation into Boness in October 2019 after they received reports of inappropriate contact between him and a high school student. 

NSP investigators then arrested Boness in late January. 

According to the Nebraska State Patrol, the investigation revealed that Boness attempted to have illicit communication with a student through social media.
