Rare heat burst recorded in Boone County

The National Weather Service says temperatures Saturday morning jumped 18 degrees in 30 minutes.

BOONE COUNTY - A rare weather event took place in Boone County early Saturday morning.

The National Weather Service says a heat burst was recorded by a couple of different stations in the county. Heat bursts are rare, atmospheric nighttime events characterized by gusty winds, a rapid increase in surface temperature, and a decrease in surface dewpoint associated with a dissipating thunderstorm.

At the reporting weather station, the temperature went from 74 to 92 degrees in 30 minutes, the relative humidity dropped from 83 to 26 percent, and the wind peaked at 21 miles per hour.
