SIDNEY, NE - The Nebraska Department of Transportation is warning of dangerous driving conditions during a winter storm forecast to hit the Nebraska panhandle on Thursday.

Nebraska DOT encourages people to check the latest road conditions by visiting the Nebraska 511 website or dialing 511. People can also track where all NDOT plows are by visiting plows.nebraska.gov.

In a news release, NDOT says crews will be out working to clear roadways allow in a potential blizzard. Drivers are urged against unnecessary travel.

If travel is necessary, NDOT wants to remind motorists to have warm clothes, food, water and a roadside emergency kit available in case you get stuck.

They also urge people to use extra caution if they come across a plow working to clear the roads. Plows usually drive much slower than normal traffic. They advise to give them plenty of room to operate.
