The Mustangs defeated Omaha South 80-59 on Friday to advance to the Class A State Championship game against Bellevue West. It certainly didn't come easily, as the Packers played a strong first half to take a 32-29 lead into halftime.
The key was the third quarter for the Mustangs, as they outscored the Packers 27-9 in the period to take a 56-41 lead into the final period. From there Millard North was able to close things down in the fourth quarter to earn its first-ever state title opportunity.
The Mustangs were paced by Hunter Sallis with 22 points, but the star junior left the game with an apparent ankle injury in the fourth quarter. Saint Thomas put in 18 points, and Jasen Green added 12 in the victory for the Mustangs.
