With State Senator Ernie Chambers term limited and unable to run for re- election this year at least two political pros want to follow in Chambers' footsteps.

Former Omaha City Councilman Fred Conley and former Douglas County Election Commissioner Dennis Womack have both filed for the District 11 seat in Omaha's predominantly black near North side.

Conley, who is the number two man on the Missouri-Papio NRD, has also served on the Omaha Housing Authority and was Omaha's interim mayor in 1988.

This is Womack's 2nd run for the legislature. When Chambers was term limited in 2008, Womack ran but came in second.

Womack also ran for the Douglas County Board in 2004 but lost that race as well.
