Red Cross Opens Shelter In Fremont

The American Red Cross has opened an evacuation center in Fremont in response to flooding in the area.

FREMONT - The American Red Cross has opened an evacuation center in Fremont in response to flooding in the area.

The flooding is being caused by an ice jam on the Platte River, and flooding has continued in the Inglewood area on the south side of Fremont. A flood warning is in effect for south central Dodge County until 6:30 PM Sunday.

The evacuation center is located at the First Lutheran Church in Fremont. Individuals and families who have evacuated from their home are urged to go to the shelter to be assisted by Red Cross volunteers.

Anyone evacuating to the shelter is asked to bring essential items for each member of their family, including:

- Prescriptions and emergency medications

- Foods that meet unusual dietary requirements

- Identification to show residence is in affected area and important personal documents

- Extra Clothing, pillows, blankets, hygiene supplies, and other comfort items

- Supplies needed for children and infants, such as diapers, formula, and toys
