Wynot comes from behind to take Lewis and Clark title
HARTINGTON - Earlier this season, Class D2 #5 Wynot saw a win slip away in a one-point loss to Class C2 #5 Ponca.
The Blue Devils returned the favor Monday, erasing a 15-point deficit for a 53-50 come-from-behind win over the Indians to win the Lewis and Clark Conference tournament.
Wynot's fortunes turned when they started increasing their defensive pressure on Kaci Day. The Ponca senior had 21 points in the first half on eight-of-ten shooting. But she was held without a field goal and just three points in the second half.
As the Blue Devil defense was holding the Indians to just 14 second-half points, they were able to salt the game away with some clutch shooting late, going 11-of-12 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.
The win spoiled Ponca's hopes for a third straight conference title, and was Wynot's first since beating Ponca for the championship in 2017.
The victory was career win number 399 for Wynot Head Coach Steve Wieseler.
