Gering, NEB Gering head coach Rick Marez was the leader of the Lady Bulldogs run to the state title this past cross country season.

Now he is being recognized for his efforts as he was named Nebraska Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The award is given to the top boys and girls coach in all fifty states in the sport of cross country.

 

Each winner was selected based on their team's performances throughout the 2019 cross country season.

Among other factors taken into consideration were team score and placement at state and margin of victory. Each honoree will receive a trophy recognizing his or her achievements and they will be in consideration for national coach of the year.

Lincoln Southwest High School head coach Ryan Salem was named Nebraska Boys Cross Country Coach of the Year by the orginization.
