LINCOLN - Officials say that six men incarcerated at the Lincoln Correctional Center tested positive for salmonella.

In a news release, officials say that on or around November 22nd, six prisoners became sick.

They say others also became sick around the same time with similar symptoms, but were not tested.

The medical director at the NDCS says they believe that it was not a food item served to everyone, and may have been food that was isolated or hidden which led to it being not properly stored.

Two people who were ill went to an outside hospital for treatment.

Director Scott Frakes says that the illness only impacted those living in one housing unit at LCC.

As soon as the people became ill, the kitchen and dining areas at LCC and the Diagnostic and Evaluation Center were disinfected.

All are now recovering from their symptoms.
